Sloss Furnaces and BSC Alumnus to Entertain BSC

The Durbin Gallery at Birmingham-Southern College features the work of artist and alumnus Chris Forgey this October.

“Oh, the Places You’ll Go!”—in conjunction with the annual Art Students League/Sloss Furnaces iron pour—is an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Forgey, a 1999 BSC bachelor of fine arts graduate. It will be on display Oct. 5-31.

The exhibition is free and open to the public as are these related events:

  • An opening reception and an iron pour by Sloss Furnaces metal arts sculptors will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, at the gallery. The Over the Hillbillies Band will entertain during the event. Attendees will be able to purchase a sand mold to create their own iron keepsake; purchases benefit the BSC Art Student League.

  • The BSC Art Students League will pre-sale sand blocks for the iron pour in the Courington Atrium in Norton on Tuesday, Oct. 2, and Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $15 and pre-designed gingko leaf blocks are $20.

  • Forgey will give an artist’s talk reflecting on his work and career at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, in the Kennedy Art Center Lecture Hall.

The Durbin Gallery is housed in the Kennedy Art Center/Azar Studios complex. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
