The Play (and Park) is Very Scenic

During E-Term 2019, the Birmingham-Southern theatre department produced a play titled Sunday in the Park with George.

Inspired by the painting, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by George Seurat, James Lapine’s writing along with Stephen Sondheim’s masterful composition presents a work of musical theatre unlike any other.

Directed by Dr. Michael Flowers and with musical direction by Dr. Lester Siegel, past, present, love, life, and art will combine as main character, George, traverses the hardships of artistry and love.

The play is a Pulitzer Prize-winning musical that has received ten Tony Award nominations, including “Best Musical,” has obviously moved audiences and critics alike.

See the story unfold on the Birmingham-Southern Campus Theatre mainstage February 21-24 with an opening night dinner February 21 at 6 p.m. in Stockham Parlor. Tickets are available during box office hours and online here.
